coach Mark Richt was pleased with his 10th-ranked Bulldogs

Head coach Mark Richt was pleased with his 10th-ranked Bulldogs' two-hour practice in full pads on Tuesday afternoon in Athens. While Tuesday is traditionally a full pads session for Georgia, this week's workout wasn't originally planned as such.

Since Georgia enjoyed an open date last Saturday, preparations for this week's matchup with Tennessee were moved ahead a day. Monday's practice followed Tuesday's regular routine. Tuesday's session was slated to be conducted in shoulder pads and shorts as a regular Wednesday practice before Richt decided to alter that plan.

"I just really didn't like the way we practiced yesterday," Richt said. "I wanted to see if we could do a better job today, and we were much better today."

Earlier in the afternoon, Richt conducted his weekly press session to discuss this Saturday's game with the Vols.

"We get a chance to play an outstanding football team," Richt said. "I know they are 2-3 right now, but if you look at their season, they have an overtime loss they certainly could have won just as easily as they lost it. They lose 14-12 to Auburn and they are basically one exchange away, handing off the ball to the tailback away from winning that game. They very easily could be 4-1 and could be a top-15, top-10 team right now. They are that good, they are that capable, and I just want to make sure everybody understands how good of a football team this is."

Georgia (4-1, 1-1 SEC) and Tennessee (2-3, 0-2) will face off on national television in Sanford Stadium, with CBS broadcasting the game beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET. All Georgia games also are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and on both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on both georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, and on XM satellite radio. source>>>

2008 ACC Basketball Predictions, Picks & Season Preview

Posted on October 7, 2008 | 10 Views

The ACC is going to be one of the top conferences in all of college basketball once again in 2008-09. They have the best team in the nation with North Carolina, and are deep with a bunch of others that have a real shot at making the tournament at the end of the year. Let's take a look at how we see the final standings playing out:

Instant Credit Card Deposits & 100% First Win Bonus!

1. North Carolina - This is the pretty obvious choice since they return Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, and Danny Green. All four of those guys were thinking about putting their name up for the NBA draft but decided to come back and make a go for the national title. It would be surprising if they don't get it. Read our entire North Carolina basketball predictions article for more on the team.

2. Duke - The Blue Devils will go under the radar for the first time in a long while since the Tar Heels are going to be the media darlings. They return a solid core of players, mostly in the backcourt. If they have someone step up down low and take the pressure off of Kyle Singler then they could contend for the conference crown. Read our Duke basketball predictions article here.

3. Miami - Kind of the surprise team here, but the Hurricanes are not just a football school any more. They return four starters from a team that went to the second round of the tournament a year ago, but won't sneak up on anyone like they did a year ago. Read more in our Miami basketball predictions article.

4. Wake Forest - With everyone coming back again this year, we expect this team to finish in the top half of the division. They added the best recruiting class in the conference to an already deep lineup that has all-conference talents James Johnson and Jeff Teague. Talked with a spokesman for Stubhub.com, who informed me the average Florida-LSU ticket on their site is going for $329 a pop. And that's only the eighth-highest price tag for games across the country this year. Florida-LSU trails Michigan-Ohio State ($670 per ticket), Georgia-LSU ($437), Alabama-LSU ($419), Florida-Georgia ($416), Auburn-Alabama ($412), Ohio State-USC ($398) and Oklahoma-Texas ($361). Absolutely absurd.

Just takes the joy out of being a fan when you have to take out close to a grand for two tickets and a hot dog. Any horror stories out there? Read on for the list of the top 20 courtesy of Stubhub.

European Tour gets award for most improved this year in golf

Posted on October 7, 2008 | 9 Views

Related Categories: Sports

The European tour announced an ambitious schedule this week that stretches across more than two dozen countries on five continents, has more tournaments than there are weeks in the year, and culminates with a $20 million destination in Dubai.

Phil Mickelson is among those who might take up membership.

Vijay Singh already has said he wants to rake in the cash at Dubai, just as he did this year at East Lake, and it would not be surprising if he saw familiar faces such as Camilo Villegas and Anthony Kim trying to stop him.

None of this seemed plausible when George O'Grady assembled his players at La Costa two years ago in what might have been the most important meeting during his four-year tenure as chief executive of the European tour.

The tour wasn't in turmoil, but it was losing relevance.

The World Golf Championships were about to embark on a six-year plan to be played only in the United States, which already was home to three of the four majors. The Players Championship was a year away from moving to May, forcing some Europeans to choose between the richest purse in golf or key tournaments on their home circuit.

If that wasn't enough, PGA Tour officials were polishing off plans for the FedEx Cup, which offered US$35 million in bonus money and was sure to entice more Europeans to play more in America, and stay there during playoff events in August and September.

Two dozen European tour members met with O'Grady on the eve of the 2006 Accenture Match Play Championship, a session in which players shared ideas instead of complaints.

Asked for a central theme to the meeting, O'Grady replied, "That the European tour is worth fighting for."

"Everybody can do a whisper more," he said that day. "I got ideas from them, instead of them lecturing me. I won't stand here and say it's all rosy. We do have challenges. But they are challenges that can be met."

The fight produced Europe's strongest schedule ever.

The most compelling component is renaming the Order of Merit to "The Race to Dubai," which has a similar concept to the FedEx Cup without having to calculate points or calling it something that it's not - playoffs.

The top 60 on the money list qualify for the season-ending Dubai World Championship, which offers a $10 million purse for the tournament, along with a $10 million bonus for the top 15 on the money list.

To protect the rank-and-file, but still make European tour membership appealing to American-based players, tour officials increased the minimum requirement from 11 to 12 tournaments, with two of those events on European soil. For top players who are eligible for the four majors and three WGCs, that means they will have to play only four European tour events before the Dubai World Championship.

"The tour has clearly moved up a gear in its ability to attract the world's best players," said Sergio Garcia, who flew to Turnberry on Monday to help promote the launch of the new season. "It will certainly help focus the interest of the players, and I for one will be seeking to get to Dubai and make a great finish to the season."

Along with Mickelson and Singh, others who are contemplating European tour membership include former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and Adam Scott. Kim and Villegas are sure to be tempted.

Does the PGA Tour suffer? Not necessarily.

Tiger Woods does not plan to join. What the last four months have shown is that if Woods doesn't play, does anyone care?

And while $20 million sounds like a lot in Europe, the FedEx Cup pays $35 million in bonus money, with four $7 million tournaments leading up to that. It still pays to play on the PGA Tour, which is why so many Europeans do.

If Mickelson were to join, he likely would play two events in Asia (after the PGA Tour season ends), along with the French Open and Scottish Open in July. He has played at Loch Lomond the last three years, and to play the French Open would mean missing the AT&T National at Congressional, which Lefty didn't play last year, anyway.

Singh played 23 times on the PGA Tour this year, and to miss a couple of events would not do any harm.

"The players that move the needle significantly - whatever list you go by - most of them are players that are playing a couple of times overseas now, anyway," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. "It wouldn't take players a lot to play the requisite number, and they can get there without changing their PGA Tour schedule.

"We're keeping an eye on it," Finchem said. "What currently is on the table would appear to have a dramatic effect."

Of the 12 players on the PGA Tour and European tour money lists this year, only three of them have played at least 25 times on both tours so far this year - Daniel Chopra (29), Retief Goosen (26) and Trevor Immelman (25).

It's not asking much to play both tours, and more players should consider it.

Having two strong tours is good for golf.

If there is cause for concern about Europe's new world - beyond the 11 "TBAs" on the schedule, including the Irish Open and European Open - it is the dependence on one group for so much money. The tour now is in a partnership with Dubai-based Leisurecorp, and one can only hope the important golf decisions are left to people who know golf. source>>>

College Football Gambling - Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Missouri Tigers

Posted on October 7, 2008 | 7 Views

Related Categories: Sports

Two of the hottest teams for college football bettors to bet on do battle in a critical Big XII showdown between the Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-0, 4-0 ATS) and the Missouri Tigers (5-0, 3-1 ATS). Since the start of last season, Missouri has gone 17-2 SU and 13-4 ATS, while Oklahoma State is 11-4 SU and 9-4 ATS in their L/15.

These two teams haven't met since 2005. The Tigers hold a 7-2 ATS advantage since 1993. This could be a Big XII conference championship preview, as Missouri ranks #3 in the nation, while Oklahoma State has moved up to #17 in this week's AP Poll.

Oklahoma State bettors faced a hefty 26-point spread against Texas A&M last weekend. The final stats suggested a much closer game, but five forced turnovers was enough to propel the Cowboys to the 56-28 victory. QB Zac Robinson threw three touchdowns and ran for the other two offensive touchdowns for Okie State. Robinson leads the Cowboys offense, which ranks 2nd in the nation in rushing yards at 314.6 per game and 6th in total yards at 530.2 yards per game.

Since only putting up 39 points against Washington State in their opening game of the season, Oklahoma State has put up at least 55 points in all of their outings. The defense has been suspect the past two weeks, giving up 24 points to Troy and 28 to the Aggies, who had only averaged a shade over 21 points per game going into their match-ups last week.

UFC Is Becoming a Popularity Contest

Posted on October 7, 2008 | 7 Views

As you all know, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is mainstream.

The biggest MMA company in the world really is UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). I mean there has been many wonderful nail biting fights in the past, but lately it seems like it is a popularity contest to even get a shot at a big time fight or even UFC Gold.

We all saw Kimbo Slice fall to some no name the other day when he prepared for Ken Shamrock. He is overrated as a fighter, and just because he can kick your butt and mine doesn't mean he can do it to real MMA competitors.

Now, UFC President Dana White is giving Brock Lesnar a shot at the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Champion Randy Couture. Which would be ok, if Brock Lesnar would have earned it. Last time I checked he has only been in a few matches, and is 1-1 in them.

I can't dispute Couture he is up there with the greatest of all time, but Lesnar? Obviously, it is a popularity contest. He got his popularity on the WWE as many of you know and went to MMA. His first fight fight was really hyped and it got big numbers on pay-per-view.

But then the over-rated star lost, and then had another match and beat some other no-name. Then all the sudden gets a main event caliber UFC Title match. Who did he really beat to get that shot? Please help me out here.

Lesnar is a good wrestler, and in the WWE I can see him getting a sot at their WWE Championships, but UFC? Please, there are many UFC fighters out there as or more deserving to have that title fight than Brock Lesnar.

Sure UFC has weight classes, and not many are in his weight division, but more than half could beat Lesnar at a UFC Video game, and more than that in an actual fight. Come on UFC, are you turning into the WWE?

Dana, I know you want to sell tickets, but give someone who deserves a shot at the title a chance.source>>>

Duran Duran will make a final push behind the its most recent studio album,

Duran Duran will make a final push behind the its most recent studio album, "Red Carpet Massacre," with a run of dates late in the year.

The British pop-rockers kick off the North American portion of the outing Nov. 28 in Mexico City. The first US show follows a few nights later (12/1) in San Antonio, with the band wrapping up the 13-city run Nov. 14 in Montclair, NJ. Details are provided below.

For further ticketing information, including pre-sale dates and the group's international schedule, check Duran Duran's official website.

Issued last fall, "Red Carpet Massacre" is the band's 12th studio album. The follow-up to 2004's "Astronaut" features production help from Timbaland and Justin Timberlake, as well as noted pop studio ace Danja (Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado). During the recording process, the group weathered the departure of founding member Andy Taylor, who was unhappy with Duran Duran's musical direction, according to published reports. Taylor was replaced by Dominic Brown, who currently serves as the band's touring guitarist.

"It's lurid," singer Simon LeBon explained to LiveDaily of the album's title earlier in the year. "It's like a lurid headline on a newspaper, isn't it? To a certain extent, we're looking at people living their lives in public, whether they're in reality TV or celebrities in meltdown. Models in rehab. You know what I mean? You can sum all of that stuff up along with the fact that you've got guys trying to blow you up on the train. It's a lurid title."

The video for "Falling Down," the Timberlake-produced lead single from "Red Carpet Massacre," is streaming at the band's website.

Female fan's kiss ends music concert in Kuwait

A Kuwaiti official says authorities abruptly ended a music concert by an Egyptian singer in this conservative Muslim country when a young female fan jumped on stage, hugged the male singer and gave him a kiss.

Qanas al-Adwani, who heads the government department that monitors public entertainment, says the girl's behavior at Friday's concert "defied the conservative traditions" of Kuwait.

Al-Adwani also said Sunday that the fan's behavior broke controls on public entertainment, which were imposed by influential Muslim fundamentalists after they failed in 1997 to ban concerts altogether. Concerts have to be licensed by the government, and monitors from the Information Ministry watch the crowd to make sure nobody stands up to dance. source>>>

With Pop Star Guitar, Griffin takes stab at music-game glory

Music titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are among the hottest products on the videogame market, and a local company believes it has the next big hit.

Minneapolis-based Griffin International Cos. Inc. teamed with New York-based videogame publisher XS Games to develop PopStar Guitar, the first music title aimed at teenage girls. While the other games on the market feature hard-rock songs from artists like Rage Against the Machine and Metallica, PopStar Guitar includes hits by artists like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.

Griffin believes that difference will help PopStar take some market share away from Guitar Hero and Rock Band this holiday season.

"We have really high expectations," said Justin Royer, Griffin's vice president of creative marketing. "It has the makings of a huge hit." source>>>

Castle Rock's Radach scores TKO in prime time MMA event

Posted on October 7, 2008 | 8 Views

Benji "Razor" Radach was definitely ready for prime time. The 1997 Castle Rock High School graduate appeared in the third installment of the mixed martial arts "EliteXC Heat" fight special Saturday night, which was televised nationally by CBS from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Radach, 29, made the most of his opportunity by knocking out Brazilian Murilo "Ninja" Rua in one of the undercard bouts. Radach needed just 2 minutes, 31 seconds to win by technical knockout in the second round.

The main event was supposed to feature veteran Ken Shamrock against rising star Kimbo Slice, a former Miami street fighter and bodyguard. But Shamrock wasn't cleared to fight by doctors because of a cut over his eye sustained during a workout, and was promptly replaced five hours before the bout by unknown undercard fighter Seth Petruzelli.

Despite giving up nearly 30 pounds, Petruzelli won by knockout in just 14 seconds.

Many observers and bloggers, however, agreed that the Radach-Rua duel was the best of the night.

Both fighters set a furious pace in the opening round. Radach hurt the Brazilian with a series of strikes, but Rua came back with a dangerous ankle lock that had the ex-Rocket scrambling to survive. Radach summoned his Castle Rock High wrestling experience to escape and make it to the bell.

Radach (19-4) managed to get Rua (16-9-1) on his back during a furious start to Round 2, and when a string of blows delivered by Radach went undefended, the official stepped in and stopped the fight.

The match was seen by an estimated 6.5 million television viewers.

"I couldn't pass up the publicity on this one, just because it's on live TV," said the 185-pound Radach, who finished fifth at 141 pounds in the state wrestling tournament as a junior for the Rockets and eighth at 148 as a senior.

"There was a big headliner -- Ken (Shamrock) and Kimbo (Slice). The one thing about that fight is that they put people in the seats. They get a lot of people's attention," he added. "I definitely had to go with it. I couldn't pass that up."

The victory was Radach's sixth victory in his last seven fights. Fifteen of his 19 wins have come by knockout.

Rua had won five of his last six bouts heading into Saturday.

Radach's diversified mixed martial arts (MMA) career includes three fights in a four-month span in the popular UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in 2002. He went 1-1 with a win over Nick Serra, a loss to Sean Sherk and a no-contest against Steve Berger in UFC 37.

Radach knocked out Berger in 27 seconds, but the bout was later overturned by the Louisiana State Athletic Commission after a questionable stoppage and a possible illegal blow by Radach.

He spent several years away from MMA after sustaining a severe broken jaw in a fight against Chris Leben, but recovered from his injury and began fighting at middleweight for the Los Angeles Anacondas of the now-defunct International Fight League (IFL).

Radach signed a three-fight deal with EliteXC earlier this year, a contract that likely will be extended after how well he performed on national television.

Radach's legend grew in 2006 when he and his training partner tackled a 64-year-old man who was attempting to hold up Elmer's Restaurant in Vancouver with a gun.

He was recently named the corporate director of instructor's training for LA Boxing and Kickboxing Fitness Training, the largest franchise of its kind in the United States. His responsibilities primarily involve training and preparing potential instructors source>>>
