Save the City Records has announced the October 6, 2009 release of veteran rapper Benjiman's sophomore CD, S.K.R.I.P.T. (Spreading Kingdom Realities In Perilous Times).

Produced by Brandon Bee (Amber Pacific, Jaime Jamgochian, Stacie Orrico) and featuring collaborations with Sparrow Records recording artist Shawn McDonald and indie artist Paul Wright (formerly of Gotee Records), S.K.R.I.P.T. is already garnering favorable reviews.

"This is a very tight and professional release, with a nice contrast between heavy, rock-oriented rap and smooth, soulful hip-hop," says Christian music website JesusFreakHideout.com. "Benjiman...is putting out music that can compete with the best, and it's great to have him back."

Although there's no denying that Benjiman easily falls into the "rap" category, elements of his music take it beyond that simple classification. Building on an R&B foundation, he adds in "rapcore" elements, creating an extraordinary fusion of R&B, rap and rock. Throughout the project, Benjiman sprinkles captivating tales about ordinary people he has encountered. In the leadoff single, "Back Home," co-written and produced by Wright and mixed by Jeff Frankenstein of the Newsboys, Benjiman compares human suffering to the suffering of Christ as he tells a story about a man who has lost his job. In "Stones" (featuring vocals from special guest McDonald), he sets a vision of how God works in our everyday lives against a backdrop of funk and folk music. Producer Brandon Bee brings his guitar virtuosity to the project, turning the blowtorch up on "Our Spot" and "Smokescreen," and R&B/Gospel drummer Sam Mathews (Bryan Duncan) adds a fresh funky feel on "Stones" and "System." To top it all off, legendary mastering engineer Steve Hall ("American Idol," Madonna, Earth Wind & Fire), gives the project a world-class sheen.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Benjiman was inspired by Christian rock pioneers Petra and dcTalk. He found a passion for reaching people through music and began his career performing around his small hometown of Lacomb, Ore. One day he received a call to rap for a little-known band named Callbox, who later changed their name to Kutless. On that group's first album, Benjiman rapped on a song called "Pride Away," which led to further collaborations with Kutless and Falling Up. Eventually, he signed a recording contract with BEC Recordings in 2004 and his first solo release, Activate, climbed the charts with the Top 10 hit single, "Trace of Love" and the Top 20 hit, "Activate." That project paved the way for several nationwide tours and a myriad of festival performances.

Now a familiar face at big festivals nationwide such as Creation, Spirit West Coast and Joshuafest, Benjiman says he feels called to reach out to the churched and the unchurched. "Rap is a universal language that opens doors to many audiences," he says. "My ministry is to reach kids who no one else will talk to. After my live appearances, I often end up talking to kids with troubled pasts; they gravitate toward me. I'm able to show them that they are not alone and that the Lord loves them. I have met with kids who were going through serious trouble. Somehow they came to one of my concerts, and God ministered to them through the lyrics."

Abandon To Release Searchlights Aug. 25th

San Antonio rock act Abandon will release its first full-length disc, Searchlights, to retail outlets nationwide Aug. 25, 2009. In support of the project, Abandon will open for Flicker Records act Fireflight this fall on "The Hope Tour."

Abandon made its label debut last July with the release of a self-titled digital EP, which received rave reviews from critics who called it "catchy" (ChristianityToday.com), "a tasty morsel of what is to come" (jesusfreakhideout.com), and hailed the band for being "at the forefront of the current music industry" (indievisionmusic.com). The EP additionally produced two No. 1 Rock radio singles with "Hold On" and "Providence."

In April 2009, Abandon released the EP on disc, while giving fans a taste of six new cuts available via digital outlets only. Searchlights combines the best tracks released by Abandon over the last year plus three never-before-recorded songs, "Confession," "Here We Are Now" and "Safe In Your Arms."

"Thematically, Searchlights is a promise of rescue from a dangerous place, that if you look up, you will see the light of hope through the dark," says Abandon's Josh Engler. "Sonically interesting and energetic with passionate lyrics, we hope fans find what they're searching for with this record."

Abandon will debut Searchlights live on the road with Fireflight beginning Oct. 1. Joined by Word Records artist Remedy Drive, "The Hope Tour" will visit major markets including Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Antonio. James Broadnax guilty of capital murder over the killings of Stephen Swan and Matthew Butler

A jury has found James Broadnax guilty of capital murder over the killings of Stephen Swan and Matthew Butler outside their Christian music studio in 2008.

The punishment phase begins in the morning.

The jury deliberated about 40 minutes.

In closing arguments, defense attorney Brad Lollar focused on whether confessions given to the media or Broadnax's actions were intentional because he had used marijuana laced with PCP and embalming fluid.

He also said without those confessions to reporters, prosecutors would not be seeking the death penalty.

Dallas County prosecutor David Alex countered that Broadnax knew what he was doing and sounded "proud" of his action in those interviews.

He said the interviews "only amplif[y] that he is as cold as they get," Alex said. But they are not the reason that prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

"This defendant took the handgun you all saw and executed Stephen Swan and Matthew Butler for no other reason than they had stuff and he didn't," Alex said. source>>>

Red Bull products taken off the shelves in Hong Kong, traces of cocaine found

Hong Kong government met with Red Bull Hong Kong Office representatives, importers and retailers of Red Bull products today (June 2). They were informed that Government Laboratory had conducted tests on samples of Red Bull products and found traces of cocaine, a dangerous drug controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, in some of the samples coming from Austria and the United Kingdom.

As Government had all along adopted a zero tolerance attitude towards dangerous drugs, they were advised of the legal position under the ordinance. Having regard to the specific circumstances of the case, including the absence of prior knowledge of the cocaine content in the product, no prosecution is intended in relation to the dealing in such products in the past. However, should they continue to deal in any products containing dangerous drugs in future, they might be liable to prosecution.

Noting that the major retailer chains had already taken off Red Bull products from the shelves, the Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong, advised those retailers who had not done so already to follow suit as a precaution since some of the samples were found to contain the dangerous drug. It was also suggested that they consider returning the products to their suppliers. The retailers were receptive to the advice.

The test results of further samples were available this afternoon. No cocaine was detected. Government would further contact the Red Bull Hong Kong Office for more comprehensive product information, lot and serial numbers and samples for testing in order to establish whether the existence of traces of cocaine in some samples is a systematic issue or whether it relates to any particular lot or serial number.

Department of Health and Centre for Food Safety advised that given the extremely low level of cocaine found in the products, normal consumption of the products concerned is unlikely to pose psychotropic or adverse health effects.

In the case of consumers, all indications are that they are not using the products as dangerous drugs. No prosecution is intended. But as cocaine is a dangerous drug, consumers are advised not to buy or consume the products concerned. Source>>>

Red Bull drink lifts stroke risk: Australian study

CANBERRA (Reuters) - Just one can of the popular stimulant energy drink Red Bull can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, even in young people, Australian medical researchers said on Friday.

The caffeine-loaded beverage, popular with university students and adrenaline sport fans to give them "wings", caused the blood to become sticky, a pre-cursor to cardiovascular problems such as stroke.

"One hour after they drank Red Bull, (their blood systems) were no longer normal. They were abnormal like we would expect in a patient with cardiovascular disease," Scott Willoughby, lead researcher from the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, told the Australian newspaper.

Red Bull Australia spokeswoman Linda Rychter said the report would be assessed by the company's head office in Austria.

"The study does not show effects which would go beyond that of drinking a cup of coffee. Therefore, the reported results were to be expected and lie within the normal physiological range," Rychter told Reuters.

Willoughby and his team tested the cardiovascular systems of 30 young adults one hour before and one hour after consuming one 250ml can of sugar-free Red Bull.

The results showed "normal people develop symptoms normally associated with cardiovascular disease" after consuming the drink, created in the 1980s by Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz based on a similar Thai energy drink.

Red Bull is banned in Norway, Uruguay and Denmark because of health risks listed on its cans, but the company last year sold 3.5 billion cans in 143 countries. One can contains 80 mg of caffeine, around the same as a normal cup of brewed coffee.

The Austria-based company, whose marketing says "Red Bull gives you wings", sponsors Formula 1 race cars and extreme sport events around the world, but warns consumers not to drink more than two cans a day.

Rychter said Red Bull could only have such global sales because health authorities across the world had concluded the drink was safe to consume.

But Willoughby said Red Bull could be deadly when combined with stress or high blood pressure, impairing proper blood vessel function and possibly lifting the risk of blood clotting.

"If you have any predisposition to cardiovascular disease, I'd think twice about drinking it," he said.
